Ananda Martial Arts & Fitness Academy is a member of the House of Discipline Martial Arts Group founded in Texas by Grandmaster James McMurray.

GM McMurray began martial arts training in 1962 and received his first Black Belt in 1970. He trained diligently and earned Black Belts in several martial arts. He is a former Army Green Beret who served two consecutive tours in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, specializing in “silent sentry takeout” via pressure points and bladed weapons. Several U.S. military units, correction facilities and police departments in Germany, North Carolina and Texas have benefited from his instruction in unarmed and armed self-defense techniques. GM McMurray also developed techniques for doctors, nurses and EMS personnel to safely restrain unstable patients. The National Organization of Women (NOW) used his techniques in anti-rape/anti-abuse classes.

GM’s McMurray’s tournament career lasted from 1973 to 1995 in Texas, where he competed in forms, traditional weapons and sparring. After retirement he became a referee, and he trained members of the U.S. Army Taekwondo Team and the Central Texas Junior Olympic Team.

The Moo Hap Sool Kido System, the fruit of GM McMurray’s more than five decades of military training and martial arts practice, is now taught to soldiers in Afghanistan, Germany, Iraq, Japan, Panama and the United States. GM McMurray also works with Texas Homeland Security, the US Secret Service in Crawford, Texas, and elite soldiers at Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood), Texas.

GM McMurray, who was on the cover of Taekwondo Times in 2010 and 2013, spends the majority of his time teaching all levels of martial artists at his schools in Harker Heights and Copperas Cove, Texas, as well as teaching martial arts seminars around the world.
